Grievance Procedure
This procedure meets ADA requirements and may be used by anyone alleging disability-based discrimination in any service, activity, program, or benefit provided by the State of Montana, Legislative Services Division.
How to file: Submit a written complaint describing the alleged discrimination. Include your name, address, phone number, email, and the location, date, and description of the issue. Alternative filing methods (e.g., personal interview or audio recording) are available upon request.
When to file: As soon as possible, preferably within 60 calendar days of the alleged violation.

Response timeline: Within 15 calendar days of receiving the complaint, the ADA Coordinator will meet with the complainant to discuss the issue and possible resolutions. Within 15 calendar days after the meeting, Leah Hibbs will provide a written response (in an accessible format, if needed) explaining the Division’s position and resolution options.
Appeal: If not resolved, the complainant may appeal within 15 calendar days of receiving the response to Jerry Howe, Executive Director, Legislative Services Division, or designee.
Final resolution: Within 15 calendar days of receiving the appeal, the Executive Director (or designee) will meet with the complainant. Within 15 calendar days after the meeting, a written final decision will be issued (in an accessible format, if needed).
